Small Stuff 8: It’s Happening….Again

23 Nov

I’m a tad late on this but I’ve got some artwork in this years Small Stuff 8 group show at the Bear and Bird Boutique and Gallery. I was privileged to be part of Small Stuff 4 back in 2010, so it was awesome to be invited back this year.

So what’s this Small Stuff all about? Well all the artwork is 8X10 or less and this is a cash and carry exhibit. You buy it, they wrap it up and you bring it home. As well, the price range in this exhibit is very user friendly. If you’re looking to buy art for the first time, well here’s your chance. There is literally something for everyone.

The opening was today, but the show runs until January 16, 2015. Which means there will be plenty of chances to scoop a masterpiece. If you’re not in Florida? Go to¬†and you can purchase any piece (that hasn’t sold already) and have it shipped directly to you.

Here’s the show’s flickr stream for some quick browsing. And here’s what i submitted!

Into the Night

This one is an oldie, but I finally got around to coloring it. I think this was one of my first ink illustrations I did after picking up a pen after a decade or so. Sometimes the hardest part of getting back on the creative bandwagon is simply deciding what to draw. This time around I just went with something that left a lasting impression of me. That something was the early 90s TV show Twin Peaks.

I was 15 or 16 around the time of it’s heyday, and it was my first real exposure to the creative mind of director David Lynch. I had previously seen Dune and Elephant Man but both were a bit much for me to process at that younger age. Twin Peaks was the right show at the right time. It was unlike anything on TV, surreal and compelling with a wonderful cast and an amazing soundtrack. It was so many years ago, but it seems like yesterday. Many of the best things are.

I’m still a fan of damn fine coffee to this day.

"Diane….I’m holding in my hands a small box of chocolate bunnies."

I just finished this for a Deviant Art contest, more for fun and appreciation of the cult classic tv show Twin Peaks. The subject is Diane, Agent Cooper’s unseen secretary he frequently addresses on his tape recorder. For me Diane was never just a secretary to Dale, she was an equal and a peer whom Coop could confide and share everything. An open mind and ear, and a person that understood the strange and wonderful world as Agent Cooper saw it. Although what she looked like wasn’t necessarily important, I always thought that she belonged to another era much like Coop and was a Grace Kelly to his Jimmy Stewart. Her presence on the show was like that of a ghost.
